Boost to social housing funding a win

National housing campaign Everybody’s Home commends the Federal Government for investing an additional $2 billion in social housing.

By the end of the month, State and Territory Governments will receive at least $50 million each to spend on social housing.

The funds can be used to deliver new social housing as well as renovate and refurbish existing uninhabitable homes.

This direct investment is desperately needed. The government’s decisiveness and commitment to release these funds immediately means lives can change sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, we have joined housing and homelessness peaks to call on the Senate to pass the Housing Australia Future Fund. It is disappointing to see voting on this bill delayed until October.

The sooner the Fund is passed, the sooner we can start building on it to end Australia’s social housing shortfall. With a shortfall of 640,000 homes, there is no time to waste.
