People’s Commission into the Housing Crisis
Australia is in the midst of a historic housing crisis. More people are finding themselves in housing stress than ever before. Right now, there are 640,000 families in need of social housing, and 122,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night. This is one of the greatest challenges of our time, requiring bold vision and ambitious reform.
Everyday we hear from ordinary Australians doing it tough – from those living in insecure or unsafe conditions, skipping meals or foregoing essentials, to those facing eviction, exorbitant rental increases or priced out of their communities altogether.
The People’s Commission into the Housing Crisis will provide a platform for everyday people to share their stories of housing insecurity. We will invite community members and service providers to provide testimony, culminating in a series of recommendations to fix Australia’s housing crisis.
