Send your MP a Christmas Card
and ask them to help end homelessness
Christmas should be a time for family and celebration.
But this Christmas more than 116,000 Australians won’t even have a safe, secure home to celebrate in.
The Government’s own data released in the week before Christmas* shows that:
- Our homelessness services are forced to turn away 254 people asking them for help. Every. Single. Day.
- 3 out of 5 people who are homeless and ask for help won’t be housed because there’s a desperate shortage of social housing.
- In the last year 215,373 women and children sought homelessness help – almost 50,000 were younger than nine years old
- And last year 43,000 young people aged 15-24 turned up at homelessness services ALONE.
That’s not how Australia should be.
But we can fix it!
If all our representatives take concrete action they have the power to fix our broken housing system and end homelessness in Australia in just 10 years.
Send your local MP a Christmas card and let them know that ending homelessness in your local community is up to them.
Because that’s the real spirit of Christmas.
(P.S We’ll cc every one of your cards to the Prime Minister and the Minister for Homelessness.)
