Low-income earners lucky enough to secure a home in a landmark $100 million development in Sydney’s west have compared it to “winning the lottery”.
Soaring demand for cheaper rental accommodation meant applications for affordable housing in the Harts Landing development in Penrith closed after just a week.
“The demand was absolutely huge…people have said that it was like winning the lotto when they got a place,” said Andrea Galloway, chief executive of community housing provider Evolve Housing.”We had to stop talking applications.”
