Everyone needs a home.

But in NSW, 37,000 people are homeless on any given night. Almost 300,000 households live in housing stress, paying more rent than they can afford. And the 1 in 3 households who rent in NSW still don’t have protection from unfair evictions.

There’s no doubt about it – we’re at crisis point.

But the good news is, there are solutions.

That’s why this State election, we’re calling on the major parties to commit to real solutions to make sure everybody in NSW has a home. We need them to support:

  1. 5,000 more social housing residences a year to relieve the pressure on the private rental market and increase the supply of affordable homes for people on low incomes.
  2. Banning “no grounds evictions” so that 2 million NSW renters have more security in their own home, even if they don’t own it.
  3. A properly funded plan to end homelessness in NSW by 2030 – based on what experts and support services say works.

Will you sign the petition calling on the leaders of the major parties to commit to three key things that will fix our broken housing system so that everybody in NSW has a place to call home?

To Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Michael Daley, Jenny Leong,

Everyone needs a home.

But in NSW alone, 37,000 people are homeless on any given night. Close to 300,000 households live in housing stress, paying more rent than they can afford. And more than 2 million NSW renters still have no protection from unfair evictions.

There’s no doubt about it – it’s at crisis point.

But the good news is, there are solutions.

NSW needs an extra 5,000 social housing residences each year, to provide a housing safety net for the growing number of people struggling to stay housing in private rentals. It will mean that there is a greater supply of homes available to those on lower incomes, so that people will no longer have to languish on waiting lists for years – instead, they will have a safe and secure home.

We need to ban no grounds evictions in NSW so the 1 in 3 households who rent can feel secure in their home; and we need a properly funded 10 year plan for ending homelessness in NSW – which is the worst in the country.

As the leaders of the major parties, you have the power to make this happen. That’s why we, the undersigned, are calling on you to commit to:

  1. building the 5,000 extra social housing residences our state needs
  2. getting rid of “no grounds evictions” for NSW renters
  3. funding a real plan to end homelessness in NSW within 10 years.

Housing is the number one issue for NSW voters*. We’re expecting you to take action.
